"The
Process Equipment People" designs, engineers and manufactures
a full range of ThoroBlender® Double Cone Blenders to suit various
blending and production requirements.
At
the Research & Development level, PATTERSON offers the
Porta-Shell Blending System that incorporates a ThoroBlender®
Double Cone Blender Body feature. More information on this
unit and the sizes offered can be accessed under Porta-Shell
Blending Systems.
The PATTERSON Type 'A' ThoroBlender® is also used for Research
& Development, Pilot Plant, Pre-Production and small scale
production.
ThoroBlender®
Type 'A'
This compact design is recommended for laboratory and pilot
plant operations, as well as for small production requirements.
It features a large opening to facilitate removal of contents.
This simplifies cleaning when changing from one product or
color to another. It is available in operating capacities
from 1 to 8.7 cubic feet.
ThoroBlender®
Type 'B'
The ThoroBlender® Type 'B' is the most widely used processing
system for rapidly blending production quantities of dry powders,
colors, pigments, metals, metal powders, synthetic products,
fine and heavy chemicals, photographic chemicals, dyes and
intermediates, resins, molding powders, plastics, pharmaceuticals,
medicinals, fertilizers, prepared flour and cake mixes, baking
powders, tobacco, feeds, grains and other food products, insecticides,
detergent powders, non metallic minerals and all kinds of
free flowing dry materials. It produces a homogeneous, uniform
product in a minimum of time even when additions as small
as 1% or 2% are made to the batch. Operating capacities range
from 1 to 5200 cubic feet.
ThoroBlender®
Type 'C'
The
unique Double Cone dry material Blender requires minimum floor
space and its cantilevered design allows you to position it
in any number of places to match your work flow.
Its three-sided accessibility means valuable savings in time
when loading or unloading. Mounted directly on a sturdy pedestal,
it can be operated and serviced from three sides.
The high clearance under the discharge nozzle speeds operations
and permits easy access to keep the work area clean.
The Type 'C' ThoroBlender® is economically priced, easy to
install and will result in cost effective performance throughout
its life.
Because it costs less to build and install, the Type 'C'
will save on initial cost, on installation, and on continuing
operation throughout its life.
Design
Features:
- Three-side accessibility
- Higher clearance under discharge
- Small floor space requirements
- Competitively priced
- Dependable blending
The PATTERSON Double Cone ThoroBlender® achieves absolute
homogeneity in the blending of a wide variety of free-flowing,
dry materials. This is accomplished even with dry materials,
which are dissimilar in particle size and shape, because the
double cone design interfolds the material regardless of its
flow properties.
The PATTERSON ThoroBlender® combines a precisely engineered
double cone design, and a rotating speed calculated to produce
a fast homogeneous blend.
HERE'S HOW
IT WORKS
As the ThoroBlender® rotates, the material at the sides nearest
the axis starts to cascade first, striking the sloping sides
of the cone where it is deflected toward the centre. The progressive
cascading action moves material from the smallest axial radius
and toward the centre. The speed of the unit determines the
point of rotation at which the material starts to cascade.
A second action takes place simultaneously with the cascading
action. Material falling into the middle of the blender spreads
apart as it falls, mixing with the material flowing inwardly
from the sides. The double blending action is so rapid and
effective that particles of different physical properties
cannot separate, and are interspersed uniformly throughout
the batch.
The blending action continues as long as the blender rotates.
Discharge is rapid and complete. There are no corners or vanes
to hold or carry material from batch to batch. Both charging
and discharging action are by gravity flow and arranged so
that the blender may be installed in a continuous process
operation.
The ThoroBlender® mixing efficiency is exceptionally high
and substantially reduces mixing time. Charging is fast and
clean, and discharge is quick, thorough and direct. The operation
is completely dust-free. Mixing is gentle and uniform; power
requirements are low; and blending cycles are short.
PATTERSON ThoroBlenders® are available in carbon steel, stainless
steel and special alloys. Where it is necessary to blend extremely
finely divided materials which tend to form tightly bonded
agglomerates, the ThoroBlender® is supplied with a special
internal disintegrating or dispersing element to assure rapid
mixing and blending in a single operation.
Laboratory models from 18" (.46 m) diameter to 3'0"
(.92 m) and production models from 3'6" (1.07 m) to 16'0"
diameter (4.9 m) are standard. Larger sizes up to 5,000 cu.
ft. (140 cu. m) working capacity have been built for special
applications.
The ThoroBlender® may be jacketed for heating or cooling
and can be equipped for flash drying, spray coating or particle
disintegrating. Liquids may be introduced and uniformly blended
with dry materials.
