for open or closed circuit grinding under the most severe and
exacting applications. By proper selection of linings and grinding media, these mills may
be used for practically all-metallic and non-metallic minerals, for the production of
metal powders and for processing an infinite variety of grindable materials. Since the
product is processed in a closed cylinder, it is uncontaminated by oil or grease leakage.
PATTERSON Continuous Mills are available for fine or coarse grinding
in all sizes from 24" diameter to 96" diameter and from 36" long to
30'0" long.
Open Circuit Operations
Continuous open circuit
operation is smooth, simple and positive. Material passes steadily through the open feed
trunnion of the mill. It is then ground to desired fineness and discharged at the opposite
end.
Closed Circuit Systems
Continuous Mills are used in closed circuit operations for maximum control of
product size, economical grinding and low contamination. Screens, mechanical air
classifiers or pneumatic classifiers are embodied in the Continuous Mill System for dry
grinding. For wet grinding the mill may employ a wet classifier, screen or centrifugal
classifier. Rapid removal of ground material from the mill prevents over-grinding and
achieves a more uniform product. In the closed circuit system, fine particles are removed
from the finished product and oversized particles are returned to the mill.
Grinding Density
Fineness of Grind Continuous Mills may be used to grind products with a fineness of
1/4" (6.5 mm) to 10 microns, (.01 mm).

Mill Linings:
PATTERSON Ball and Pebble Mills may be lined with Burhstone or
ARLCITE alumina. The lining to use is determined by the
application and PATTERSON's experience.
PATTERSON offers ARLCITE lining materials for installation in
our plant or at customer's plant by fully qualified PATTERSON
personnel.
Grinding Media:
PATTERSON Mills may be charged with Flint Pebbles, ARLCITE
balls or Molloy steel balls in sizes from 1/4" (6.5 mm) to
2" (5.2 cm) diameter. Here too, the selection is
determined by the application and PATTERSON's experience.
PATTERSON stocks some ARLCITE High Density Porcelain Grinding
Media, Select FLINT PEBBLES, polished and unpolished ALLOY STEEL
Grinding Balls in a variety of sizes or has them available for
custom orders.
